You can read the chords.
You know what D means.
You know what G means.
You read the letter… you play the note.
And still… it doesn’t quite add up.
Because chords don’t happen in a vacuum.
They belong to progressions—patterns that give the music direction.
And once you start to recognize those patterns, the lead sheet starts making a whole lot more sense.
Instead of:
“Here’s a chord—what do I do with it?”
You start to think:
“Oh. I know what’s happening here.”
No more guessing chord by chord.
You’re playing with direction.
